RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool, Imtiaz, chaired a crucial meeting today aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness in response to natural hazards like floods and landslides.
The meeting, held at the Gool Sub-Division, gathered key officials including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and representatives from essential departments. Together, they reviewed the district’s disaster management plan and coordinated strategies to mitigate risks posed by the impending monsoon season.
Officials present also included Naib Tehsildar Inktikhab Ahmed, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Sanjay Sharma, and several engineers from the Jal Shakti and PWD departments. Representatives from Health, PDD, and the SDRF contributed to the discussions, highlighting the importance of a united front against possible emergencies.
Imtiaz emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of resources, including the availability of men, machinery, and essential commodities. He directed agencies to prepare for effective relief measures against threats such as flash floods and landslides.
“All departments must remain on high alert,” he stated. He specified that monitoring of vulnerable areas should occur around the clock during this critical season, ensuring that all precautionary measures are in place.
The SDM tasked the Jal Shakti, PWD, and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) departments to pinpoint high-risk zones. He insisted on readiness of restoration teams to respond immediately should incidents arise.
Moreover, the Health Department received instructions to guarantee the availability of necessary medical supplies and personnel at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Gool, alongside Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in surrounding areas.
Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) were urged to maintain a buffer stock of food rations, while PDD officials were asked to ensure that backup power facilities remain operational during disasters.
Imtiaz also directed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to routinely survey vulnerable locales. They should maintain updated records of disaster-prone areas and engage local communities in disseminating essential safety information.
He highlighted the key role of community involvement in disaster preparedness. Local residents should be informed about necessary precautions, dos and don’ts to follow during natural events.
Law enforcement and representatives from the 23 RR were ordered to be on standby for rescue operations, while Beacon officials must prepare for expeditious road repairs following potential blockages due to landslides.
The SDM concluded the meeting by reiterating that the administration prioritizes the safety of lives and property. He noted, “Effective coordination, timely responses, and public cooperation are crucial in minimizing disaster impacts.” He assured attendees that the administration remains well-prepared to tackle any arising situations caused by natural calamities.
